I remember when I first started in photography, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to get into specifically. My interests were all over the place. A part of me wanted to dive into macro photography and wildlife photography. Another part of me wanted landscapes, architecture and urban/street photography. It’s a good thing I didn’t have enough money to try all of the above. I probably would have spent so much more on macro lenses and macro lighting rigs or ultra wide and tilt-shift lenses just to end up finding out it wasn’t for me. And that’s definitely a hard lesson I cannot afford.
Now, I have fully decided what I want to do. Portraits. Anything with people in it. Although I would like to specialize in commercial photography such as fashion and glamor, I wouldn’t mind doing family portraits or events on the side.
So how does all this relate to my ‘day 32′ photograph? Well, the dead give away here is that it’s a picture of a person. Lillian is a friend and a co-worker who volunteered to be my ‘day 32′. Aside from her wanting her portrait done, I was more than happy to oblige. One, that solves my “what should I shoot?” dilemma. Two, as I’ve said above, I want to specialize in shooting people. Three, as if I need anymore reasons, it’s a different person for a change. It’s not a picture of my son, my wife, my best friends, etc.
So… with today in the books, I have 11 months to go in this photographic journey. I hope to photograph more faces and fine tune my skills in this specialized area in photography.
